Courtyard

The connection between interior and exterior within a terraced home usually only involves the boundary between the rear kitchen and the garden.

Here we have introduced an internal courtyard to the centre of the home, allowing for more rooms to connect with the fresh outdoors.

This Dulwich house, falling in a conservation area, obtained a side return, loft extension and complete refurbishment. Exposed steel beams run through the kitchen towards the large sliding door to the garden. A series of skylights above the stairway filter light from the top of the house all the way to the ground floors. The original fireplaces and bay windows feature in the dining room and bedrooms.
